Most Canadian passports require a witness to sign the back of one passport photo. Please check with the Canadian government for the requirements, as it depends on which application you file.
I have the official stamp as required, which includes all the text. You, or your guarantor, only need to hand write your name and sign.
I recommend using a sharpie fine point permanent marker to write on the back of the photo. Due to the resin coating on the print media, which is specifically manufactured for passport photos, an alcohol/solvent based ink is recommended, since not all standard ink pens will adhere or dry completely.
I presently have the specification of the following Countries:
Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, France, Gambia, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guinea, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Laos, Latvia, Lebanon, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Moldavia, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Schengen, Saint Lucia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United Nations, United States and Vietnam.
Occasionally new countries are added, please call if you don't see your country listed. I have 280+ formats from over 101 countries.
This varies per country, but here are some general recommendations. Please check if your country requires specific rules.
Do not wear white clothes, since a white, light gray or light blue background is required for most passport applications. Glasses and earrings might have to be removed since it may reject the passport photo due to glare. Most countries do not allow glasses to be worn. The eyes must be entirely visible. Your passport photo must have a neutral facial expression, mouth closed and looking straight at the camera. Some countries permit head covering only for religious, philosophical or medical reasons.
Your passport photo should have a regular day-to-day appearance, avoid excessive make up and dress conservative. Ladies, no lip gloss please. Sorry, no smiles are allowed.
Do not wear white or light color clothing to provide a clear contrast with the background. Some countries require clothing in a specific color.
Do not wear spaghetti string tops.
Do not wear uniforms but wear general day to day clothing.
Do not wear camouflage themes clothing.
The following requirements are specifically for Jamaica, with a stricter rule in regard to clothing (photos will be rejected if not adhered to):
Applicants of light complexion should avoid wearing white clothing and should have photographs taken against a pastel shaded background.
Applicants of dark complexion should wear colored clothing and photographs should be taken against a white background.
Applicants with grey/white hair should have their photograph taken against a pale blue or pastel background.
Exposed shoulders and chest must be avoided.
Bright colored clothing is not recommended.
Black clothing is generally recommended.
The passport photos are printed on a dedicated professional dye-sublimation passport photo printer, to comply with the high resolution and passport photo paper quality, insisted by the various authorities. All passport photos are printed on a sheet of 4x6 inch. Extra printed sheets are available, for a small fee, when needed or requested.
Printing technology is dye-sublimation.
Printed resolution is 400dpi. (true hardware, not software manipulated)
Printed on passport photo paper, in color, with a protective layer.
USA, Canada and China photos will be cut to size. Some European governments do not allow the photos to be cut, please check with your country. However I am able to cut most common size photos if you like.(please see my available size cutters below) To aid in cutting the photos, cut lines are printed on the printed sheet of photos.
I have the following size cutters:
25x35mm
30x40mm
33x48mm
35x45mm
40x60mm
50x50mm (2x2inch)
50x70mm
I proudly use IDPhotoPro, subscription based, European passport photo software. This is a special designed professional software in use by many professional photographers worldwide. It’s constantly updated to the most current specifications from each available country.
IDPhotoPro takes full advantage of proprietary algorithms to automatically detect all relevant facial biometrics. In addition IDPhotoPro instantly aligns and crops the image to fit local passport requirements. It detects potential issues such as mouth expression, sunglasses, reflections and much more.
Your passport photos are printed immediately in the studio, ready while you wait, your session usually takes just 20 minutes. (For one person, Canadian passport might take slightly longer due to validation requirements.) Only one appointment is needed, there is no need to come back a few days later to pick up your prints.
I take my passport photography business very seriously. Some other passport photography outlets might have staff without proper training and are not familiar with the various specifications that differ per country, and use poor lighting or equipment, which results in poor quality prints, that could be rejected. My photos are guaranteed to be in compliance with ICAO and government regulations.
I am certified in professional photography trough the New York Institute of Photography and certified in passport photography trough the Dutch "Stichting Nederlandse Fotovakhandel" (Dutch Foundation of Photography Professionals). I am certified with the Dutch photomatrix 2007 specifications, and familiar with the current 2020 specifications.
The International Civil Aviation Organization recommends that passport photos be taken with a neutral expression for use with facial recognition systems - advanced technology that helps prevent fraud by electronically verifying identity based on each person's unique facial features.
In compliance with ICAO’s (International Civil Aviation Organization), recommended practices, some 100 countries, including the United States and Canada, are issuing electronic passports or ePassports. In a world where security needs are constantly changing, countries all over the world look to ICAO for trustworthy advice. As technology evolves, ICAO's standards and document specifications will continue to influence the passport's development on a global scale. If you would like to learn more about ICAO and passports, please visit ICAO's website.
The MRTD Report focuses on two subjects relating to the ICAO Biometric Blueprint: the use of the face as the primary biometric for interoperability of ePassports, and the launch of the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) as the main global distribution point for all signing certificates from all issuers of ePassports.
