Dutch Model Train mainpage

Hi and welcome to Dutch model trains, previously NLMS, Nederlandse Model Spoorwegen.

Here I post the progress of my current hO scale model train layout, which I started in October 2024. I created this website sometime back in the early 2000’s, before I started building my previous layout, and after moving into my new home. Most of my model trains are from the 1980’s while I was living in the Netherlands. In 1988 all of my model trains, scenery and accessories were packed up in moving boxes, shipped across the ocean, waiting for the moment for a layout to be build. In 2004 I started building my previous layout, which never finished and was removed in 2012. Between 2012 and 2024 my hobby, and this website, was on a temporary hold. Now it’s time to, once again, build the layout. In a smaller room than originally planned when I bought my home. However, a small layout is always better than no layout.

Introduction to the train room:

In October 2024 I picked up on my train hobby again by starting yet my next layout. Hopefully this time it will be my final layout, and I could build it to completion. Unlike my last layout that was in a room about twice the size as this one, I am now going to build my train room and layout with a different approach as I usually have done.

So, my train room is located in one of the two small bedrooms in my house. Small is still about 12.5 x 12.5 feet (3.8 x 3.8 meter) though. It is my intention to have a one-point viewing area as soon as one enters the room. There is a small entry way where people can stay and view the trains. Most of the entire layout will be seen from here. I have 3 unattached and separately controlled layouts build into one.

My main layout.

The layout will be on a slight grade going upwards in the back, viewed from the front entry way, to be able to see more of the layout details that usually are flat, creating sort of an optical illusion.

My closet layout.

Since I am still unpacking my moving boxes and cleaning out my little closet, I decided to build a small extension to my main layout in this little closet.

My diorama layout.

On the lower level of my model train layout is my diorama with a depth of about 15 inch (38 centimeter), and with a length of 12.5 feet (3,8 meter).
